Welcome
We are a vital and growing parish, a community that celebrates the real presence of God acting in our lives and in our world. It’s an exciting place of welcome and belonging. A ‘deep place’ is what early Celtic Christians called a spot where the things of the Spirit seemed to matter.
St. Michael’s-a place of worship, a gathering of friends and strangers, a working Episcopal parish-welcomes you. We hope that new members as well as long-time members join together as we seek a deep place where God is known, loved, and worshiped in spirit and truth.
Welcome to a church that seeks to be a deep place where we radiate the love of Christ into the world.
Liturgy and Worship
Worship, liturgy, the breaking of bread, and serving and loving one another help us to stay connected in the community of faith. It is in community where we demonstrate our love for one another in ways that reveal we are the companions and friends of Jesus.
Please join us for morning prayer, for our more contemporary family-friendly service, or our more formal Rite 1 Holy Eucharist services to experience the rich and deep tradition of our Anglican heritage.
Who We Are
As Episcopalians, we are members of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America. The Episcopal Church is comprised of approximately three million worshipers in about 7,500 congregations in the 100 dioceses across the United States. The head of the national Episcopal Church is the Presiding Bishop.
Episcopal means ‘bishop’ in Greek and the Episcopal Church is governed in part by its bishops. The Episcopal Church is a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion which is comprised of 38 Provinces (regions) throughout the world. The head of the Anglican Communion is the Archbishop of Canterbury.
St. Michael and All Angels is one of more than 46 parishes in the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas. The Episcopal Diocese of Kansas has churches in more than 37 cities in Kansas and serves nearly 12,000 members.
The Rt. Rev. Dean Wolfe is the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas. Bishop Wolfe cites six main focus areas of his episcopacy: the development of existing parishes, starting three new churches within the next ten years, youth/young adult and campus ministry programs, revitalizing stewardship and development programs, diocesan facilities including the diocesan offices and a camp and conference center, and the expansion of outreach ministries. St. Michael and All Angels is fully committed to each of these initiatives. Diocesan offices are located in Topeka, Kansas.
What to Expect When You Visit Us
St. Michael’s is a warm and friendly parish that welcomes you. We are located on the northwest corner of 67th and Nall Avenue in Mission, Kansas. There is a large parking lot situated behind the church, with entrances off of 67th Street. There are specially marked parking spots for “First Time Visitors” that are just outside the main entry doors. Handicapped parking spaces are available in the front circle drive off of Nall. Special “Senior Parking Spaces” can be found in the front circle drive and in the southeast section of the large parking lot.
You will be greeted at the door by one of our Red Door Greeters. Let them know where you want to go and these friendly individuals will direct you to the nave, the nursery, Sunday School rooms, or to our parish hall. You may also meet one of our Welcomers. If you wish, they will provide you with a Newcomers Packet that you may take with you after services. There is lots of information about St. Michael and All Angels parish in the packet.
Please make time to join us in Spencer Hall for Coffee Hour, a time to meet and visit with other members and friends of the parish. Coffee Hour, which is hosted by the Welcomers, is held following both the 8:45 and 10:45 worship services.
We have a beautiful new nursery located on the lower level for those with infants and/or children up to four years old. Pagers are available for the parents of those children who are enjoying the Nursery. You may learn more about the Nursery by clicking here.
Eucharistic Visitors (Come and Serve)

If you have need of this ministry, on a short- or long-term basis, or would like information on becoming a Eucharistic Visitor please contact Deacon Susan Drury at 913-236-8600 (x-325) or at suzi@stmaa.com.
Worship Assistance
The worship services at St. Michael and All Angels are enhanced by very dedicated individuals serving as:
Vergers – Lay persons within St. Michael’s who ceremonially lead the Procession at our 10:45 a.m. service and at some special services such as Christmas Eve and the Easter Vigil.
Eucharistic Ministers – Eucharistic Ministers administer the chalice during our worship services. They also serve at special liturgies such as weddings, funerals, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Pentecost, and All Saints
Acolytes – To be an Acolyte is a privilege and a responsibility, serving God, serving St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, and mentoring each other. Acolytes are youth volunteers from 7th grade though 12th grade who provide an integral part of the ministry to the worship services at St. Michael and All Angels each Sunday and at special services throughout the year. There are four teams of six that serve every other Sunday, one 8:45 a.m. service and one 10:45 a.m. service. Among various performances, acolytes are responsible for lighting and extinguishing the candles on the altar, processing with the cross, the torches that illuminate the cross and the Gospel procession, and leading children both to and from Children's Chapel, just to name a few! These young adults enrich the liturgy by their presence and demonstrate responsibility and maturity as they serve God and each other.
Ushers – Ushers extend a warm welcome to all who come to worship, providing assistance to anyone who needs direction or has special needs. Our Family Usher Ministry at the 8:45 a.m. service provides an opportunity for parents, youth, and children to serve together as they hand out bulletins, count attendance, collect the offering andpresent it at the altar.
Lectors – Lectors bring lay participation as they read the scriptures at the Saturday and Sunday worship services and at special seasonal services throughout the year.
Altar Guild – St. Michael’s Altar Guild prepares the altar and sanctuary for Holy Eucharist and all other services of worship. We are responsible for the care of vessels, linens, and vestments. The flower chairman schedules memorial and thanksgiving flower donations and sanctuary candles, works with our florist to order flowers, and handles the decorations for Christmas, Easter and other special days.
