Topic: Reclaiming Our Time:
Spiritual Practices for People in a Hurry
Let’s face it, we are all looking for a magic bullet that will calm our minds, quiet our souls, and make sense of the chaos of everyday life. We are drawn to books that promise “Five Keys to Inner Peace in Less Than Five Minutes a Day.” So when we Christians write books about “spiritual practices,” they don’t exactly hit the bestseller list. “Spiritual Practices” make us think of monks and nuns, not ordinary people living busy lives. We think spiritual practice can’t be for people in a hurry. At this year’s Women’s Retreat, the Rev. Amy Cox will give us the spiritual starter-kit for people in a hurry. We’ll look at three practices: Prayer, Hospitality, and Discernment. We’ll dust off our old assumptions and discover that spiritual practices are just ways to be intentional about things we already do every day. When we pray, we talk to God about what matters most. When we practice hospitality, we welcome the people who matter most (for God, that’s everyone). When we discern, we learn how to say “yes” to what matters most, and “no” to what stands in the way of that. Mtr. Amy will teach us simple but powerful exercises that will make it easy to practice our faith, even when we’re in a hurry. It’s not a magic bullet, it’s better—it’s a way to live. Come join us and reclaim your time!
