FIRST INFORMED COMMUNION

What is First Informed Communion?
Many of our parish children begin receiving the Eucharist when they are still babes in arms. The Episcopal Church practice of an open table is extended to all baptized persons, regardless of their age. However, there is a time when guided instruction about the Holy Sacrament is helpful and necessary.  St. Michael & All Angels First Informed Communion Retreat is designed to help children and their parents explore the mysteries of the Eucharist. Enrollment is open to all baptized children ages 6 and older. During our time together, families will talk about important meals and celebrations, hear the Godly Play story “Circle of the Holy Eucharist”, tour the Altar Guild and Priest’s Sacristies and participate in an instructed Eucharist with a parish priest.
FIC is an important rite for many families. Participants and their families will be seated at the front of the Nave and receive Eucharist together the Sunday following their instruction. Please join us for brunch between services, where participants will be recognized and a group photo taken. If you have questions or are interested in participating in FIC, please contact Gaye Lynn Huddleston, Director of Children’s Ministry.
