Holy Matrimony

The witnessing and blessing of a marriage is a sacramental rite in the Episcopal Church. While marriage is not necessary in the way that baptism and communion are to the life of faith, we affirm that couples receive the grace of God through rite of marriage and within the relationship they share. Marriage is a celebration of human love as exemplary of God’s love. The rite of marriage affirms and signifies God’s presence in the relationship being blessed, regardless of sexual orientations or gender identities of the couple.  The sacramental rite of marriage is a sign of the victory of God’s love over all things for all people.

St. Michael and All Angels is a place where Christian believers come to worship God. The wedding ceremony is a service of worship in which the engaged couple, the hosts of the service, seek God’s blessing on their life together. The couple seek this blessing and exchange sacred vows in the presence of holy witnesses who love them with Christlike love.

Weddings at St. Michael are reserved for couples in which at least one person has been an active member of the parish for six months or more.  To be a member, one must have been baptized. Active membership means participation in the life of the St. Michael community of faith by:

  • attending worship regularly;

  • serving, leading, or caring for others in one of St. Michael’s many and varied ministries (see the various tabs above);

  • and contributing to the financial life of the parish as a pledging giver (at any amount).

If you are not a member of St. Michael, we invite you to consider joining us as we seek to walk faithfully the way of Jesus. Regardless, we rejoice in your engagement and wish you God’s blessing in your life together.
